DIY SWIMMING HOME
An invitation to participate to DIY Swimming Home
special Kensington and Chelsea Borough edition
DIY Swimming Home is a photographic project born almost by chance during 2020 Lockdown.The artist invited people to send a picture of themselves as if 'swimming' in their own bath or shower.
This piece is focused on creating a sense of community and belonging around the theme of water and our relationship with it as human beings. Even when confined in our own homes water still connects us all ‘through the pipes, under your floor, up and down stairs, around the bends, into Hollywood private pools and then finally Home.’
During the K+C Festival, DIY Swimming Home becomes a Public Art Piece to celebrate the community of Kensington and Chelsea. We invite you to submit your own picture as a swimmer in your own bathroom or shower....or anywhere you feel like a swimmer in your own home. Please wear your full swimming gear and let your creativity do the rest.

We are interested in celebrating the diverse community of Kensington and Chelsea, submissions form BAME and LGBTQ+ communities and anyone who identifies as disable are particularly welcome.
DEADLINE TO SUBMIT 14TH JULY
All of the submitted pictures will be part of the online gallery DIY SWIMMING HOME. Some of the pictures to be featured on a giant billboard on the side of the river during the duration of the festival as well as the audio snippets which will become part of a short audio portrait piece, associated with each picture.

This is a parallel project connected to Swimming Home, Silvia Mercuriali’s last autoteatro show which audience members experience in their own bathroom via the phone app Mercurious-NET, which will run between the 25th of July until the 7th of August 2021 as part of K + C Festival.
